Research Interests

Disruption of a neuronal cell’s ability to move or maintain it’s shape can have devastating effects on brain development and function. This can ultimately lead to illnesses such as brain cancer and neurodegenerative disease. Since cell movement and structural integrity are vital to most normal biological processes, they are tightly regulated in both space and time. My current research is focused on better understanding the molecular basis and regulation of cell movement and structural rearrangement and how these processes go awry in brain cancer metastasis and Amytrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). To this end we use mouse models of ALS and brain cancer in combination with live-cell microscopy and quantitative imaging techniques, which allows us to study these processes all the way from cell culture to a pre-clinical setting.
